Samsung UE32C5100 32-inch Widescreen Full HD LED TV Review

Samsung UE32C5100 32-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 50Hz Slim LED TV with Freeview

Great TV, great price.5
This is my first move into LCD/LED TVs and away from CRT so I can't make a comparison between this and others currently on sale, but as a first timer it has blown me away. I initially settled on Samsung on recommendations from friends and family about quality, and have since spent a long time agonising over which model, or more accurately, which 'bells and whistles' I want from my TV.

With a budget of around £500 it came down to this and the Samsung LE32C650 32-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p 100Hz Motion Plus Allshare Internet LCD TV with Freeview HD, which being the next series up has things like the Samsung internet widgets and DLNA connectivity. I think you can get a little carried away by what a TV 'could' do, but this one does everything that a TV 'should' do.

I was a little concerned about it being only 50Hz but it doesn't make a jot of difference. Watching the football there was an ever so slight blur, but one of the menu options is a motion accelerator function and with this on there is no blur that my (untrained) eye can see.

A lot of criticism is aimed at the sound of LCD TVs but it is fine for the small-ish living room we're using it in.

The picture quality is great coming via the Sky HD box. HD channels are really crisp and clear, and the TV does a pretty good job with the standard channels too. Plugged into the XBox is where this TV goes from great to awesome: depth, colour, and detail are all brilliant (don't bother with 'game mode' though).

In summary...
Picture quality: crisp and clear
Motion quality: no noticeable issues on fast moving images
Sound: OK, but probably needs external speakers for higher volumes/bigger spaces
Appearance: lovely looking and only 3cm thick (having looked at TVs in a shop the LED ones make the normal LCD TVs look clunky and old fashioned!)
Setup: initial settings are OK but take some time to play with the options, particularly for colour depth and saturation
Installation: easy to put onto the stand (need a screwdriver)

If you're looking for a TV to be the hub of your home entertainment world then you might want to look at the next series up (note: this TV has Freeview and NOT Freeview HD). But if you want a TV to be a display for all your inputs (satellite/cable, console, blu-ray, media PC) then this is a fantastic option and I can't recommend it enough.
